YMCA of Greater Toronto Congratulates Ontario PC Party on Election Win
Calls for priority focus on child care, youth employment and community social infrastructure
TORONTO, June 8, 2018 – The YMCA of Greater Toronto congratulates Premier-Designate Doug Ford and his team of elected MPPs as the Ontario PC Party prepares to form the next government of Ontario.
“We sincerely congratulate Mr. Ford and the rest of his team of elected members on their victory,” said YMCA of Greater Toronto President and CEO Medhat Mahdy. “As a trusted, reliable partner to government in delivering important services to Ontarians for more than 160 years, we look forward to working with the new government to help families who rely on child care, young people in need of work, and communities in need of spaces for important physical and social activities.”

Throughout the campaign, the YMCA of Greater Toronto has called for action to create more accessible, affordable, high-quality child care, work opportunities for young people, and support for important community social and recreational programs like those delivered through YMCA Centres of Community across Ontario.
The YMCA of Greater Toronto has a proud history of building strong, inclusive communities through the delivery of programs such as health and fitness, child care, employment services, camps, youth housing and immigrant services. These programs are funded through a combination of membership and program fees, government funding and philanthropic donations.
“There is much that the new government can do to help address some of the urgent needs that we see in the Greater Toronto Area and elsewhere across Ontario. We encourage the new government to work with us to support Ontario families and we look forward to working with them,” Mahdy said.
The YMCA is tackling many of the GTA’s most pressing challenges and recognizes that government also plays a significant role in addressing these same challenges through policy direction and funding.
