YMCA donors spark potential in the leaders of tomorrow

The YMCA of Greater Toronto is a charity, and it’s thanks to our incredible donors and volunteers that we can connect people with essential services, chances to better their lives, and a sense of community and belonging. Why I Give is a series designed to put the spotlight on these incredible change makers, sharing what inspires them to give back and what supporting our charity means to them.
Today, Myriam Demers shares why Desjardins is committed to partnering with the YMCA to provide youth with financial literacy training.
Inspiration to give
“Desjardins has a long history of community partnerships with schools and organizations to empower people to take charge of their financial situation. The ‘Personal Finance: I’m in Charge’ program is a prime example: it aims to equip young adults with the tools and knowledge they need to plan their financial future with confidence.
“By delivering this program, the Y helps develop youths’ financial literacy at an age when they’re making foundational choices for their future.
“Our partnership with the Y is based on our compatible missions and shared values. We are proud to partner with a charity with such deep roots and a rich history in helping people in the GTA grow and give back to their communities.”
Thanks to donors like Desjardins, the Y can continue delivering supports for youth including the Desjardins “Personal Finance: I’m in Charge” financial literacy program. This training, which includes learning to budget and more, is a crucial resource at a time when many youth are struggling in our precarious labour market.
