Why Women Should Lift

Ladies rule cardio equipment and yoga classes at most gyms, but it can be intimidating to venture into the male-dominated weight room. It doesn’t help that there are tons of myths discouraging women from strength training: we’re told we’ll get bulky muscles, or hurt ourselves.

These fears keep thousands of women from enjoying the benefits of one of the most effective forms of exercise out there. Here’s why you should set your worries aside and give weights a try:

  1. You’ll build healthy bones.
    Strength training helps keep your bones strong and resilient. Over time, that means you’ll lower your risk of osteoporosis.



  2. Your chances of injury will drop.
    Stronger muscles and connective tissues provide greater support to your joints. In turn, improved joint stability makes you less susceptible to injury while working out or going about your daily activities.



  3. Your confidence will skyrocket.
    Research shows that women who strength train see a boost in their self-esteem. When we test ourselves and master a new challenge, it helps us feel empowered and good about ourselves.
