Why Faith does a 12 hour workout every year
Faith says she’s a people person who loves interacting with everyone who comes to the Y, and she wanted to contribute to building our community:
"I think it’s great that we are able to help children go to camp, access the Y, and have positive experiences by participating in our programs."
She certainly made a huge impact this year. On Saturday, March 5th, Faith spent 12 hours working out on her elliptical. From 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, Faith enjoyed support from tons of members, staff, volunteers, family and friends, who came to cheer her on. In fact, Faith has become something of a Megathon celebrity: people sign up to take turns riding on the elliptical next to hers as she completes her impressive challenge.
What might seem daunting to the rest of us is thrilling for Faith:
“I love being on that machine, it feels amazing. I don’t dread getting on to it. I’m ready!”
That said, Faith has to train for months to prepare herself for challenge day. This year, she started getting ready for Megathon in October. At first, she would spend 2 hours on her elliptical. At regular intervals in her training schedule, she’d add an hour, until she worked her way up to the full 12 hour session.
She says the gruelling challenge and all the months of hard work leading up to it are totally worth it:
“My legs were tired by the end, but I felt invigorated. After the 12 hours, I couldn’t believe the end had already come. When it was finished, I was like, ‘Alright let’s do it again!’”
All of her hard work and determination more than pay off. This year, Faith raised $5,652 of the $410,762 generated by Megathon overall! It’s people like her who make our community a healthy and happy one. By challenging herself to an impressive test of fitness, Faith will contribute to changing lives.
Don’t miss your chance to follow in her footsteps. You can still support Faith on her fundraising page, donate to any of our other Megathon champs, or check out the many other ways you can support the Y!
