How to get started at the Y
Health and fitness goals can feel overwhelming at first, which discourages plenty of people from sticking to them. The important thing to remember is that you’re unique, so finding an exercise routine that suits YOU will be the key to your success. Follow these easy steps to find your perfect fitness solution:
Step 1: Prepare
If you’re just beginning your health and fitness journey, start with the basics.
- Bring supportive, closed-toe running shoes and comfortable workout clothes you can easily moving in.
- You’ll want a water bottle, to ensure you stay hydrated during your workout.
- Don’t forget a combination lock you can use to safely store your belongings in the locker room.
Step 2: Explore
You won’t know what kind of exercise you like best unless you try a few different options. Break out of your comfort zone! If you’ve always stuck to swimming in the past, give cycling a try. Step 3: Ask questions

Step 4: Make a plan
We all feel awkward walking into a new environment we are unfamiliar with. It is a good idea to come to the gym with a pre-set plan or workout routine.

- TIP: By coming to the gym with a plan you can focus each visit on a specific task you want to complete. Then pick one area of the facility to get familiar with that visit. Each time you come you will get a little more comfortable without feeling like you are aimlessly walking around.
Step 5: Experiment
