Students wrap up the school year with field trips to the YMCA
Eco Camp: Environmental Leadership Camp
Sixteen elementary schools in the York Region District School Board selected six students from each school to attend Eco Camp, which took place at YMCA Cedar Glen in early May. While learning about the environment, leadership and teamwork a few of their activities included measuring food waste during meals to encourage waste reduction, a photo nature scavenger hunt and hilariously struggling to race on land skis at Low Ropes.
Roden Public School
Although High Ropes is often the highlight, what was most memorable for students was Tarp-Ball Flip: to toss a ball, flip the tarp and catch it again as a team. A challenge that sounds simple, but is an amazing challenge for groups of all ages! Grades 5 and 6’s definitely stepped up to the task and were able to complete it in less than 10 minutes. A huge accomplishment but let’s not mention how many attempts it took. Let’s just say they were a determined bunch!
Kipling Collegiate Institute
A three-day trip for 52 high school leadership students was packed with an exciting schedule that focused on communication, leadership and team spirit. Wanting to try something new, this leadership team trip was a perfect mix of all they were hoping for with team building initiatives, discover nature hikes, Inuit games, and even a karaoke and dance night!
From environmental leadership camps, elementary school end-of -year trips, and high school Leadership Teams, those are just a few groups we see coming through the Glen. After a long school year with final exams and test ahead, Cedar Glen is a great opportunity for all groups to relax, enjoy the outdoors and have fun with one another before parting ways for the summer!
