Sneet’s life-long journey at the Y
My family has been part of the YMCA community since before I was even born. We went to the Scarborough YMCA throughout my entire childhood — it was like I grew up there. When we moved, we moved Ys too, and my family and I have been members of the Mississauga Y ever since.
My favourite part about it is the diversity. Every Y has this incredibly warm, welcoming atmosphere. There are so many opportunities here: beyond fitness classes and activities, you can give back to your community by volunteering, teens can join the Youth Leadership Development program, you can take courses to become a certified Lifeguard, and so much more. And I love that everyone gets a chance to access all of these opportunities, through the Y’s financial assistance program.
That’s why, when it came time to do my high-school volunteer service, I knew exactly where I’d turn. I volunteered at my Y and had the chance to do something in return for the charity that had been there for me my whole life. And, I’m proud to say that my journey at the Y is far from over. For the past four years, I’ve been working on our Membership team.
The thing that keeps me coming back is the incredible net the Y casts with its programs. Whether you want to get healthy, make new connections, help your kids stay active, learn new skills, or work on your mental health, I can always point to at least one thing the YMCA has to offer that can help you.
