Fitness Solutions For Seniors

Getting active doesn't have to be a stressful ordeal. The YMCA has plenty of fitness options for seniors that allow you to ease into exercise at your own pace. Thursday mornings at 10:15, give our BodyFit Walk class a try at the Toronto Sheppard YMCA.

What is BodyFit Walk?

Get your heart rate up just by walking! In BodyFit Walk, your instructor will guide you through sets of exercises that involve walking, muscle conditioning, and agility training. The segments are simple and slow enough to be safe for participants of any fitness level, but still challenging enough to give you a full-body workout.

How will I benefit?

BodyFit Walk improves cardiovascular endurance and stamina. After a few sessions, you'll be able to walk for longer distances - through the park, around the grocery store, and up your stairs at home - without feeling tired.

This class is also a favourite among our older members, so you'll get to interact with some like-minded others during your workout. It's easier to stay committed to your exercise routine when it's a fun one! Join this energetic group to start making new memories with new friends!

How will my needs be met?

This low-impact class provides a great introduction to cardio training for those who need to start slow. Your YMCA group fitness instructor has been carefully trained to modify exercises according to your personal needs. If a certain movement is too demanding right now, your instructor will help you come up with endurance-building alternatives that will allow you to slowly and steadily work towards more challenging exercises.

Get moving with this fun, high-energy class Thursday mornings, and enjoy feeling refreshed and energized for the rest of the day! Fill us in on your favourite part of the experience, whether it's a new conditioning segment you learned, or the new connections you made with fellow YMCA members.

Don't forget to check in next week to learn about an exciting senior-friendly group fitness class held every Friday! For a refresher on the classes we hold earlier in the week, take a look at our most recent posts:
