Picky eater pleasers: 3 fruit and veggie packed snacks your kids will love
If your kids are like mine, their helping of fruit and vegetables sits on their lunch plates long after the main course sandwich has been gobbled up. It’s always the carrot sticks or pear slices (not the grilled cheese) that stand alone at the end of meal time.
The solution? Add fruit and vegetables right to their fav sammies! Here are three fruit and veg-packed variations on popular sandwiches from our Child and Family Development team, guaranteed to make your kids clear those plates.
1. Green grilled cheese
You’ll need:
- Handful of spinach
- Handful of grated cheese
- Spoonful of mayonnaise
- Spoonful of margarine
Blend all of the ingredients with a mixer until spreadable. Slather it on your kids’ favourite bread, and grill! Cut the sandwich in half to display the gooey green goodness inside.
2. Breadless PB and Apple
You’ll need:
- Cored apple
- Peanut butter (or no-nut spread)
Cut the cored apple into thick rings and spread peanut butter between two of them. Make sure the kids eat their breadless PB over a plate, because it does get messy!
3. Cream Cheese “Bagel” Bites
You’ll need:
- Sliced cucumber
- Cream cheese
- Poppy or sesame seeds
Cut the cucumber into thick slices, spread cream cheese on each slice, then sprinkle on the seeds.
