Celebrating our YMCA City Builders: The David Braley Charitable Foundation
YMCA City Builders are philanthropic leaders who have generously given 1 million dollars or more to date to the YMCA of Greater Toronto. On April 27, 2023, we proudly honoured The David Braley Charitable Foundation as they were inducted into our growing circle of esteemed YMCA City Builders. Read their 2023 induction citation here to learn about the incredible impact they are making possible.
In June 2022, a generous donation of $5 million from The David Braley Charitable Foundation helped make it possible to open a new YMCA Centre of Community – the YMCA at The David Braley Vaughan Centre. Located downtown within the City of Vaughan’s municipal complex (known as the David Braley Vaughan Metropolitan Centre of Community), this YMCA features programs such as health and fitness, children’s camps, and settlement services for newcomers, and also makes available affordable YMCA Child Care in the heart of the city. The YMCA at the David Braley Centre is part of the Strong Start, Great Future Capital Campaign, which brings essential YMCA programs to growing diverse cities like Vaughan so residents of all ages can build their skills, well-being, and sense of community and belonging.
This extraordinary gift honoured David Braley himself. David impacted countless lives as a philanthropist, business owner and Canadian senator. He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2012 and appointed an Officer in the Order of Canada in 2019. His philanthropy has had an indelible impact on the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, where he spent most of his life. David was a true community leader, striving to build vibrant cities for all. It is our pleasure to recognize The David Braley Charitable Foundation.
Thank you to our YMCA City Builders and all of our donors for your spirit of giving. Together, you are building vibrant communities where everyone can shine! To read about some of our other donors and their impact, visit ymcagta.org/Donors.
