Celebrating our YMCA City Builders: Lorraine Lawson & Donald G. Lawson
Lorraine and Donald G. Lawson’s enduring and powerful relationship with our YMCA has impacted countless lives. The start of Donald’s service to our communities dates back to 1950, where he was active in the ‘Y Clubs’ for teens in the north end of Toronto. In 1968, Donald deepened his involvement with us, joining our Board and eventually becoming Chair — providing the critical leadership our YMCA needed to overcome significant challenges and get on the path to becoming the effective, sustainable organization we are today.
Donald’s exemplary counsel and strong leadership are powerful examples of prudent fund stewardship and outstanding Canadian philanthropy. Along with giving back with Donald, Lorraine has a storied history of leadership in giving. As a Board member of the Counselling Foundation of Canada — among other senior volunteer roles at various charities across Ontario — she has had a deep impact on girls and young women, and all youth.
Our flourishing, vibrant YMCA today is a result of Donald and Lorraine’s robust personal legacy of caring and civic responsibility, and for this we all have profound gratitude for these two formidable YMCA City Builders.
Thank you to our YMCA City Builders and all of our donors for your spirit of giving. Together, you are building vibrant communities where everyone can shine! To read about some of our other donors and their impact, visit ymcagta.org/Donors.
