Celebrate good times as the Markham YMCA turns 10!
When the Markham YMCA officially opened its doors in May of 2006, it was met with enthusiasm and excitement – people throughout the area began joining. As General Manager of the location when it first opened, Cathyann White saw first-hand the impact it had on the city.
"14,000 people signed up in its first year,” recalls Cathyann. “It was the fastest growing Y in North America, and it really became the cornerstone of the community.”
Many people saw the YMCA as not only an opportunity to better their lives and their families, but also an opportunity to support their city. As the neighbourhood grew, the YMCA continued to find new ways to serve it. It is this relationship that has allowed the facility to develop programming and events that its members need and want. Community favourites include line dancing and yoga, as well as events like the Annual Chinese Lunar New Year, Megathon line dance challenge and Winter Wonderland Festival.

Anthony Ierulli, General Manager of the centre for the last four years, has continued to carry out the YMCA’s vision of helping community members reach all their health goals through customized programs that support local needs.
"The Markham YMCA Blvd. Rudy Bratty YMCA Centre has been an integral part of the Markham community for 10 years,” says Anthony. “We have adapted and changed with the city, to ensure our programs reflect the ever-changing diversity of the City of Markham.”
Congratulations to David, Leonora, Jessica and Hani, a dynamic group of staff members who are celebrating their 10 years at Markham YMCA! Thank you for your dedication and passion!
